Getting Started With Genealogy Workshop Series presented by Judith Allen-Shaw Genealogist and President of the Afro-American Genealogical Society, New England Chapter, Inc.

Tracing your roots can be as fun as a treasure hunt! Join us for a workshop to help you get started with genealogical research! This workshop is the second of three sessions. Attendance is not required for every workshop! Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop to conduct realtime research.

This workshop is free and open to all.

About the instructor:
JudithJudith Allen-Shaw has spent the last twenty-five years researching her family lines from Fauquier and Lunenburg Counties in Virginia. This passion developed after listening to family stories from her mother and paternal grandmother. Judith began her research in the 2000’s and has travelled extensively throughout New England and the Maritime’s assisting her husband with his family research. They joined the Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society – New England Chapter, Inc. in 2011, and she became the President of AAHGS-NE Chapter in September 2020. Judith has given presentations on her Allen family, a 2023 research road trip through the State of Virginia, pitfalls encountered in research, and a how-to for beginning genealogists. She has also developed an interest in America’s Colonial period, and its impact on the indigenous and African people on this land.

Judith retired from the Boston Public Schools after a 34-year career as a Special Educator. She has a B.A. in American History from Georgian Court University and a M.Ed. in Moderate Special Needs from Lesley University. Judith is a native of Montclair, New Jersey, and presently resides in Natick, Massachusetts with her husband, Charles. They have two children and one granddaughter.
